Wondering about Critical Management Studies

A Review of and Commentary on Selected Texts Patty Sotirin

Steven J. Tyrell

Michigan Technological University

Critical management studies is an increasingly popular specialization in organizational studies. It looks like a promising area of study, especially for scholars in organizational communication. In this essay, the authors explore the issues and tensions of critical management studies. The authors review five recent books, each of which, they argue, makes a particular contribution to the shape and direction of critical management studies, and they comment on the issues these texts raise for further consideration.
